On 1st of July 2015, a team of 99X Technology took part in the “64 Squares Lightning Chess Championship 2015 (4th Edition)” for the first time. The event was organized by 64 Squares International Chess Academy at National Institute of Co-orporate Development, Polgolla. We proudly announce you that 99X Technology won following 3 prizes at the event. The most significant achievement was Lakmal’s exceptional performance to score of 7/7 which earned him the gold medal for 2nd board.
The team was represented by Sameera, Lakmal, Hiran and Navaka
1. Runner-up in the Mercantile category – 99X Technology Team (17.5/28 points)
2. Gold medal for the best performance on Board 2 – Lakmal Bandara (7/7 points)
3. Gold medal for the best performance on Board 5 – Sameera Gunasinghe (6.5/7 points)
There was a total of 79 teams participating which included profession clubs (including current Inter-Club Super League champions), university teams, mercantile teams and school teams. 99X Technology team had to settle with the runner-up in the mercantile category, 1.5 points behind the champions,  Sri Lanka Airlines. In the overall standings, 99X Technology was placed 10th. This was a really good performance by 99XT team given the competitiveness of the event and absence Jayanga & Buddhika, another two strong players of 99X Technology.
Time control was 3 minutes per player per game with an increment of 2 seconds for each move played. This is one of the fasted time controls which makes it very interesting and often produces very surprising results.
